We were excited about spending out Thanksgiving holiday there and we definitely were not dissapointed! Sue is very kind to share this hidden jewel on the Maine coast. This property is secluded, peaceful, and spacious with direct access to your own private beach. Checking in was a breeze and Sue surprised us with a nice bottle of wine to enjoy with our Thanksgiving meal. We can't wait to come back again soon.

Everyone loved their week at Bear Beach! The private beach was awesome. We kayaked on the bay, clammed at low tide and went swimming with the dog every day. The cabin is in a great spot close to Lubec and Machias for some nice hikes and local breweries. At the end of the day, we made good use of the sauna. Highly recommend!

Our home away from home

This is our fourth stay at Bear Beach and it has become like a beloved second home to us. It is the most amazing place to unwind. There is absolute privacy and quiet, with gorgeous views of the bay and sunsets. Everything needed is at the house and Sue is the best host ever. Our dogs think it is paradise with daily swims and romps on the beach. There are wonderful places to explore nearby, without the summer crowds found in most on Maine now. We love it.

Most amazing Christmas ever.

Hard to describe all the things we liked about the cabin. My family spent Christmas here and it was very magical. The owner allowed us to cut down our own Christmas tree from the yard. We did it on Christmas Eve, which made it even more special. We were able to have a very comfortable, quiet, memorable vacation and would love to return in the future.

Amazing family stay

We absolutely loved our stay at Bear Beach. The house was perfect for our family get-together. It was well appointed with everything we needed. The basement was a great hangout area for the kids, and the sauna was an amazing treat in the brisk evenings. We knew from the listing and photos about the beach, but we were still blown away when we saw it in person. The Bold Coast area is truly special, no crowds and charming towns and harbors. We were in Bar Harbor for a day and couldn’t believe the crowds..we felt very lucky to be in such a quiet yet beautiful area. Would definitely love to return one day!

The Perfect Getaway

Our stay at Bear Beach was spectacular! A bald eagle greeted us as we arrived (can't beat that). The house was perfect, and as many previous reviewers state, it had everything we needed and more. The beach was amazing, absolutely secluded, where you could just sit and read a book, take a snooze, or explore. One night we were visited by a porcupine at the beach, who didn't have a care in the world. We did a bit of exploring, visiting Roques Bluff, Jasper Beach, Campobello Island, and Monica's Chocolates, but other than that just relaxed at the house. I wish we were able to stay longer!

No place like it

This was our 5th stay at Bear Beach. We usually like to move around and try new places, but there simply is no place like it. It is a beautiful tradition we vow to repeat each year from our beach chairs. Maine at its wildest and most serene, with absolute privacy, epic days and glorious sunsets. We love to swim at high tide, dig for clams and clay at low tide and then rinse in the warm outdoor shower and relax in the sauna. Thank you Sue for sharing this with us!

Rest for the Soul

If you need a place to restore your soul, look no further than Bear Beach. This property is magical. No street noise or traffic lights or road rage. You’re enveloped in nature, pure and simple. Cabin could not be more beautiful. Scenery is spectacular. All beds were wonderful. (Didn't try the 4 twins in the loft.) Daughter fell on the rocks half way through the stay, so our travels were limited. Going to take a while to heal, unfortunate part of the wilderness. Cabin was perfect. Fun Family Adventure

The property far exceeded our expectations! Me & my husband took our 4 adult children for a family bonding vacation. Everyone slept comfortably, plenty of space to have fun, loved the sauna, beautiful views, amazing beach and lots to do within 45 minute drive. We loved hiking at Quoddy State Park, downtown Lubec, village of cutler, whale watching tour, but our favorite parts were hikes along the cottage beach and kayaking to Hog island. We learned so much about the Tide and how it dictates the day and what plans you make. Everything was just so beautiful and all our friends are asking for more info about of stay. Looking forward to coming back someday

Quintessential Maine Family Vacation

We are so grateful for Sue & her family sharing their home with our family for this trip. The house is on the end of a quiet road, which just adds to its charm. You don’t see neighbors, aside from the one dog from down the road who came to visit twice while out for a walk. We explored many of the local hiking trails with our dogs, who also got to join us on vacation! (I think they may have enjoyed themselves even more than we did) After booking the trip over a year ago, it met the expectations we set for a long-awaited trip. The stars at night, private beach, fresh local seafood, hiking trails.. we wish the week didn’t go by so quickly!

Just What We Needed

We were hoping for a wonderfully relaxing stay after a hectic 2023. And Bear Beach definitely delivered. We loved the private beach, especially our 2 year old Vizsla who had the time of his life! The home was so comfortable and situated perfectly for the most amazing sunsets every night we were there! Little River Lobster Co. has the best lobsters and it’s 10 minutes away. We hiked every single day and there were so many beautiful and amazing trails and all so close! The views were unbelievable! And Bear Beach is also close to many other places definitely worth visiting; Campobello, Quoddy State Park, Eastpark (very cute little town), Rogue Bluffs, St. Andrews, NB Canada and so many, many more! We loved our time there and cannot wait to return!

Perfect getaway

We are from southern Maine and decided to stay within driving range for the kids' April school break and are so glad we did. We also had inlaws from SC and other family from MA (including their dog) so for part of the week there were 10 of us. Plenty of space for all. Kids loved pool table, air hockey and foosball on the one rainy day we had. House is very secluded and private. 4 kids were able to run and play and be loud without worrying about disturbing others. Bold Coast hiking trails about 15 mins which are unlike any hiking on the east coast. Highly recommend this property!

Sisters Travel Club

Was a perfect secluded place to hang out with family. There was no noise other than birds chirping. No cars, trucks, trains, or planes. Plenty of firewood for inside and outside fires. Sauna with outdoor shower a plus. Home was very well stocked for cooking lobsters for a large group. Not far from Eastport and Lubec for day trips. We were there before Memorial Day therefore no outfitters were open to book excursions, but enjoyed the time with fewer tourists. We would return same time another year.

Yearly getaway

This is our third year staying at Bear Beach in June. It has become our time to unwind and sink into total relaxation. The seclusion, private beach, rhythm of the tides, vivid sunsets, and dog-friendliness set it apart from other vacation rentals. We had seals come right up to the shore this year and lots of Eiders and Loons. We do make an occasional trip to Machias, for Riverside Take-out and the French Cellar. There are also some wonderful Bold Coast hikes and Lubec and Quoddy Head. Our dogs think that they are in heaven and end the week in exhausted bliss. Sue is a wonderful, responsive host and we are so glad that she shares this place with others. We'll be back next year.

Beautiful getaway off the beaten path

If you are looking for a beautiful, well-kept, dog-friendly rental off the beaten path in coastal Maine, look no further - you will love it here! Sue was a very gracious host, responding promptly to all communications, and providing us with helpful info about the house and the area in the weeks leading up to our stay. We arrived to find the house spotlessly clean, and well-stocked with all the essentials - including bowls, a tennis ball, and treat jar for our pup! We loved the quiet solitude of the place, and enjoyed daily walks on the beach with the most gorgeous sunsets over the water. Soaking in the big clawfoot tub after a day of walking the trails in the area was pretty great too. It was all so relaxing, we didn't want to leave - Shadow is already missing those walks on the beach. We would book again in a heartbeat.

Most beautiful place in the world

My fiancé and I have never visited and stayed in Maine before. We were told how special the Bold Coast is, and decided to vacation for 8 days there. We found this location on VRBO, and set our vacation plans. I travel extensively for my job and have been a lot of places around the country. When we arrived and saw the absolutely beautiful home and surroundings, we were completely blown away! It is the most beautiful and peaceful setting you can imagine. It is very secluded, and the accommodations are top notch! Everything you need is in the cabin/home, and has all the updated luxuries you can imagine. Has an incredible fireplace, and the sauna is an added plus. Sue, the owner of the property, was so helpful and responsive and went out of her way to give us all the information about the house and things to do and see in the area. My fiancé and I hated to leave, and absolutely Okan in returning as soon as possible! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to truly have the best experience on the Bold Coast!! Thank you again Sue for sharing your home with us!

Perfect destination!

My husband and our little precious bully Ali, I have busy lives and this was just the most perfect place we could have chosen. Nestled away in remote Maine, we had the beautiful beach view and natural beauty. Sue was just such a wonderful host. Always in touch and making sure we had exactly what we needed. Sue made some wonderful suggestions such as driving through the lovely village of Cutler, which we enjoy so very much. We also enjoyed the local wine shop where we chatted with the owner who suggested a lovely local blueberry wine which we enjoyed very much with some local cheese we purchased there as well. We stopped in some of the shops in downtown Machias where everyone was just so friendly. The Bluebird Diner had the best onion rings I’ve every had, and I live in the land of Diners! The home they share is just so beautiful and comfortable. We took advantage of the lovely fireplace as well as the sauna! What a treat! During low tide we took such nice strolls on the beach just listening to the sound of beauty. One note, Sue does let you know it is a dirt road to the house so after lots of snow or rain, you know what comes next...lots of mud!! Good thing I bought a pair of boots I could just throw out.. :) Again, if you’re looking for a relaxing, beautiful get-a-way for piece and quite and just need to reconnect with loved ones...this is the perfect place.

Aixa F.

Response from Sue

Thank you so much for the very-kind words and wonderful review, Aixa! So happy to hear that you and your husband along with Ali had a great time despite the sad demise of your boots! (Sorry!) Fortunately, the mud does not last forever, but it can be rather messy while its there. The friendliness of the people together with the incredibly-stunning natural beauty are two of the things that most made me fall in love with this part of Maine. It can be difficult to find such a peaceful, unspoiled place in today's busy world. You and your family are absolutely welcome back anytime... perhaps in kayak/sand season!

Best place for a relaxing enjoyable vacation with all the conveniences of home!

We can't say enough good things about this wonderful home. Every single convenience was provided for us. The home was very clean and neat. Bedrooms were beautiful and close to bathrooms. Kitchen was well stocked with every appliance and tools necessary to cook everything from lobster to fresh wild blueberry pie! Toys, games, and supplies for children were all provided. Extra blankets, pillows, linens, towels were terrific. Beach was amazing and so close to the door! We loved kayaking over to hog island and finding lots of shells and rocks for our collections. Kite flying at the beach was also a hit. Sauna and outdoor shower and fire ring were the added bonus. We also loved the binoculars, books about Maine and bird/plant ID,, and flyers from various Maine attractions all conveniently located for us. Board games, ping pong, air hockey, and foozball were an added bonus. Lobster pot, crackers, lobster butter warmers/holders, and fresh lobster just down the road made the trip that much better! Sitting on the deck every morning with hot coffee looking out at that wonderful God-created view will never be forgotten! This is just an amazingly beautiful home and setting...so private and relaxing yet close to Machias to shop or got out if needed. Sunsets at this place are amazingly beautiful and seeing the lobster boats were also a treat. Eagles and ospreys were frequently seen too! We even got to see a moose and a family of ospreys while driving to Machias one morning! Jasper Beach and Rogue Bluffs (with wild blueberries and red raspberries) were terrific and so was the lighthouse near Lubec/East Quoddy with some wonderful trails overlooking the islands and bogs with carnivorous plants. I could go on and on about the many sensational things about the area and the house, but just want you to know it was the best memory making place I have ever been to in my life!

Wow, Sandra! Thank you so much for this amazing and detailed review! Your kind words are greatly appreciated. To be able to help people experience the beauty of Maine is truly an honor and a great joy. (Must admit, I am a bit envious of your moose sighting!!!!) You and your family were wonderful guests and took such good care of our home. Please know that you are always welcome at Bear Beach Maine!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bear Beach. The views are incredible. It is extremely private and quiet. The beach area was much larger than I expected and it's only for you! The home is very well stocked. The cupboards were so full that we didn't have room for all of the food we brought. That's not a bad thing. It just goes to show how stocked it is! Despite being at the height of summer, the house remained pleasantly cool without air conditioning. I loved the fresh ocean breezes while I slept (very comfortable beds, by the way). The grocery store is only about 20 minutes away. Nearby Jasper beach is one of the coolest beaches I have ever been to. Our host, Sue, left us a welcome gift of wine and custom soap which was so kind and thoughtful.

A gem on the ocean in Cutler, Maine

Bear Beach Maine is a wonderful getaway. The house is beautiful, comfortable and cozy. Nestled at the end of a dead end road, there is no light or noise pollution. We have rented many houses and this house, by far, had everything you would need including in a very well-equipped kitchen. We enjoyed many walks on the beach, playing pool and sitting by the fire. The owner is super nice, provided great information and was easily reachable if we needed anything. We look forward to returning to Bear Beach Maine in the near future.

It is unanimous, we would all stay at Bear Beach again. We are not able to come together as a family very often and this was the perfect place to catch up with each other. What a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the best Maine has to offer. The house provides wonderful gathering space as well as privacy. The front deck was used daily for cocktail hour, cribbage, even a little dancing one evening. The outdoor shower was a treat after an afternoon on the beach. A little slice of heaven!

A beautiful home in a quiet, remote area with private beach access. The tides are dramatic and the beach scenery is so tranquil. The clawfoot tub, sauna, and two-way fireplace made for an incredibly relaxing stay. I feel restored after our trip. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us!

Bear Beach Bliss

We will always remember and cherish our February vacation "Bear Beach Bliss"! Our family of four and our pug did not have too far to travel, as we are from Freeport, Maine - only 3 1/2 hours away, but it felt like a world away, and that is what we were looking for. A magical winter wonderland escape to rejuvenate, bond as a family, and make memories to last a lifetime. All boxes were checked and then some!!! Bear Beach is a dream and we feel so blessed that we were able to experience it. The house was so inviting and cozy and fit our family's needs perfectly. We never left the property once we arrived because we would have been too sad to do so considering our stay was just a long weekend. We bundled up for walks in the snow-covered, tree frosted, woods and roamed the beach looking for sea glass and heart rocks. We spent countless hours relaxing by the fire reading and talking, we thoroughly enjoyed the sauna, our two boys (ages 9 and 14) were obsessed with the pool table, we made some wonderful meals, enjoyed watching the snow fall all around us during a snowstorm, watched a stunning sunset, and just generally soaked up this monumentally special place. Sue and Jim, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing this treasure of yours with our family. We hope to return someday and make more memories! The Wright Family Freeport, Maine

Thank you so much, Shane! This review truly brought tears to my eyes...To be able to provide a place for families to gather and build lasting memories is such an honor and a blessing. It is what was hoped for when building the house, and it is what I continue to pray for with each family who arrives. Please return again one day; you will certainly be welcomed back.

The Ultimate in Peace and Tranquility

Private, incredibly quiet, beautiful views of the water. The Cabin is well equipped with comfortable beds, a super kitchen, brand new outdoor grill, and enough games & books to occupy a crowd! The owners have poured their heart and soul into this lovely spot and it shows. (We had no communication with the property manager, but the form insisted I check a box!)

Unbelievable Vacation

First we cannot thank Sue & Jim enough for sharing their beautiful home with us. The location was private, the house is beautiful, clean and comfortable. We felt at home the moment we walked in. Well our pup was a little unsure of the bear next to the TV so he stared it down for about 20 minutes and gave up We didn't leave the property except to get lobster as we were just so happy to unwind and enjoy exploring the beach, woods, sauna and kayaking. It was pure heaven. I was quite surprised with how well stocked everything was from cookware, dinnerware, pantry items towels etc. It was just like being home. We loved reading through the book of guests and my kids enjoyed writing in it. Out of all our vacations this was voted a "keeper". I've already been looking to book for next year!

Perfect Private Getaway

Bear Beach is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for an off-the-path, private, quite vacation! We spent the week with family and friends relaxing and enjoying eachothers company instead of running around doing things like many of our vacations. The cabin is equipped with anything you need for relaxing or cooking and the private beach is perfect. We stayed around July 4th holiday so no local rentals or tours were available by the time we looked so if you are going to stay here, plan ahead and book early! Sue was a wonderful host and answered all questions right away and was so very kind. Great place for adults, kids and dogs!

Maine cabin was awesome

We had 2 families 9 total people for a week, and everyone loved it. Plenty of room for all without feeling cramped. Loft area was perfect for 4 teenage ladies. Cabin was right on the ocean, on a shallow bay side with beautiful views. Kitchen was well stocked, beds were comfy, plenty of linens/ towels including beach towels were available. We hiked along the bold coast in Cutler, did a whale watching tour, day trip to Acadia National Park. Of course, got lobsters from Little River Lobster company about 15 min up the road. Sauna was a hit with the family, as was the fire pit. Great relaxing trip for 2 families . Communication with the owner was excellent, Sue was very responsive from booking to completion of our trip. I highly recommend Bear Beach fir your stay in Maine!

Magic

It's hard to find a place on the ocean that is secluded and private. This is it. It was incredibly relaxing--a good book, a brilliant view, long walks, short swims--just perfect. Best of all, we were able to bring our dogs, who thought it was paradise. We can't wait to go back.

This home was exactly as listed. Very inviting and cozy. It was very remote but that gave great privacy. Walking the shoreline at low tide was very enjoyable and you’re only a short car ride away from beautiful hiking opportunities. So relaxing and comfortable!

We were looking for an easy getaway for us (we live on the midcoast of Maine) to have a few days to unwind. Totally satisfied with our choice. The property was clean, great open space layout in the house, and a wide swath of sandy beach steps away. It was a cold weekend in January, but you wouldn't know that from inside - as the heating was great (with radiant heated floors - which didn't dawn on us until about the 3rd day as we realized our feet weren't cold at all) and a double-sided fireplace. Well-stocked kitchen in terms of plates, glasses, pots and pans, as well as spices and such. Took advantage of the sauna several times after walking the beach. Sunset is gorgeous. We were happy guests!

This was just what we wanted! Beautiful scenery and lodging, and fresh lobster from the local fisherman every day. We beach combed as far as we wanted without seeing anyone. Thank you so much for your kind words, Joe. That you would notice the concerted efforts of our dedicated cleaner means a lot, especially during this time. The peaceful nature of the surroundings is also one of my favorite things. You are much more likely to hear the chugging of a lobster boat or the calling of a seagull than you ever would hear the engine of an automobile a half mile away. You were a total joy to work with, and we look forward to your family’s return again one day. Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy year!

Relaxation Vacation!

Our experience with Bear Beach Lodge and it’s owners could never be duplicated. After a severe windstorm went through the area Sue was quick to notify us that the home would be without power upon arrival, and that a tree was crossing the road. We were up for whatever challenges we may have encountered and Sue was with us every step of the way to ensure our safety and experience would be everything we had hoped for. Jim walked us through starting up their new generator for the first time, we cooked dinner got settled in, lit the fire, some laterns and turned the generator off. The home was so peaceful, comfortable and nice and warm going without power for the night was a relaxing decision. Power was restored the next morning and again Sue and Jim contacted us first thing to assure we were comfortable and aware that power had been restored. Our weekend continued with freshly dug Steamers from Little Machias Bay and Lobsters right off the boat from Little River Lobster Co., both recommendations from Sue and Jim. We enjoyed walks along the beach, beautiful sunsets, dinner on the deck, a fire out back, the sauna, board games, ping pong and more. The home and the grounds are a haven that you will never want to leave. Thank you Sue and Jim!

AMAZING !!!!

Only one word can describe this place and that is AMAZING. The wife and I were pretty burnt out from our hectic jobs and needed a little down time. This is surely the place to unwind and recharge. If quiet is what you are after this is the place. The only thing you will hear is the gentle lapping of the ocean on the private beach and the wings of the sea ducks as they fly overhead. Almost everything you need is provided. Just bring your food and drink. I spoke with the owner Sue and she was super helpful. My wife enjoyed doing a puzzle and I read a good book. We enjoyed sitting by the campfire (lots of wood is provided) and sitting in the sun on the beach. Words do not do this place justice. It really has to be experienced. The week we spend there was fantastic and the time spent together was priceless.

Perfect for stepping away from your busy life and bonding with Family

I Cannot say enough about this magical place hidden in the forest at the edge of the bay, where my family stayed for only a week but made memories that will last a lifetime, while also strengthening family bonds and getting to know their siblings, nieces, nephews and cousins all over again. Some snapshots that come to mind from this week are: A teenage boy walking in the tide as it goes out reading " The Old Man of the Sea" then later watching the same movie with his Grandfather later that night. A soccer game in the back yard A family age 7 to 71 gathered together and laughing in the great room eating popcorn and watching the movie "The Great Outdoors" An afternoon trip on a whale watch where I rented the entire boat for just our family and we saw the second largest mammal in the world 70 foot long again all were amazed from the 7 year old to the 71 year old. A teenager fishing with his uncles and his excitement about catching the largest fish of the day. The family from young to old gathered in the large kitchen laughing and giggling while making lobster macaroni and cheese (with fresh main lobster picked up at the market ) along with pulled pork then all being able to sit down and eat at the tables together. Family Walking along the bay at sunset while reminiscing about the day that has just passed. We also enjoyed trips to Acadia National park , Jasper Beach (one of only two in the world the other is in Japan) the Blueberry Festival in Machias, and an amazing hike along the coast just to name a few. I realize that I have not said much about the Lodge and there is a good reason for that a vacation house should provide the setting and ambiance for a vacation not become the main focus , the lodge is perfect, welcoming, everything you can imagine that you might need is there and easy to find, the beds were all very comfortable from the loft twins to the master all with comfortable blankets. The kitchen a joy to cook in, the bathroom is handy to the great room and bedrooms. The outdoor shower is perfect for cleaning children who have played in the sand. The Fire pit a place for adults to gather at the end of the day. The lodge provides privacy for children and adults alike to make noise and bond together in a private beautiful setting while shutting the world out yet close enough to attractions for day trips. I will book this lodge again, and would have already but for a personal financial set back.

Heaven on Earth....

Peaceful, majestic, heartwarming I couldn't have asked for a better home, view, location. From the moment I walked in until the heartbreaking moment when I had to leave I felt at home, rested, and truly blessed to be so close to my favorite place in the world, the water. I think what made this home even more magical was that it was in the woods, secluded from just about everyone else. The neighbors came on our last day, but that didn't make a difference we had a private beach for almost our entire stay, which was very spacious and you could walk for a very long time. The sunsets, oh my goodness I couldn't stop watching them, even long after it set the beautiful colors remained on the water. The home, was just that, a home. I have never stayed in a rental that had everything you could ever want, very well stocked which made our cooking together as a family picturesque. We had some amazing lobster meals that I actually wouldn't have thought of if it hadn't been for the owner, Sue. I couldn't have asked for a better person to work with. I feel like I made a life long friend. Sue gave me advice from the moment I booked. She even helped throughout our stay if I had a question. This is a place I hope I get to return to very soon. Sue, thank you for sharing everything with my family.

Traumhafter Urlaub in unberührter Natur

In Machias erhält man alles was man braucht. Einzig die Moskitos am Abend waren mühsam (wir kennen das in der Schweiz nicht so extrem..). Wir können die Location sehr weiterempfehlen! Die Lage und das Haus ist ein Traum.

We were so honored to have you and your family come from so far away to visit our favorite place. So happy to hear that you had such a wonderful time exploring this part of our beautiful country...You were amazing guests and we hope that you return again one day. Many blessings to you all... Here is the English translation for those who are interested: "We spent two weeks with our three boys and my sister's family in this beautiful place. The house is very cozy, nicely decorated, spacious and super equipped with a wonderful terrace overlooking the sea. Here you can enjoy the peace and nature and watch the lobster boats. The sunsets are fantastic. The private beach with fine sand and the gently sloping sea is perfect for swimming. At low tide there are exciting things for the children to discover and long walks along the coast. Behind the house there is a nice barbecue and plenty of room for the children to play. We explored the beautiful landscapes, coasts, other beaches and Hog Island by canoe. For the kids a travel adventure. For fishing there are also many possibilities (rivers and lake). In Machias you get everything you need. Only the mosquitoes in the evening were tedious (we do not know that in Switzerland so extreme ..). We can recommend the location very much! The location and the house is a dream."

Absolutely Perfect

We really couldn't have asked for a better vacation experience. The house was clean and well-stocked (in terms of linens, kitchen items, books, etc.). While off the beaten path, the location was perfect...quiet, secluded, private beach. Acadia NP is about 2 hours away, but the drive is beautiful. An hour to the north allows a few opportunities for whale watching tours. Whether you choose to seek adventure in Down East Maine, or simply relax on the beach for hours on end, you really couldn't choose a better vacation home than Bear Beach.

Spending the first week of June in cool weather instead of the hottest month in Phoenix was heaven! Saw all the fun “visitor” sites; however the one day I stayed at Bear Beach house I enjoyed the solitude and beauty and never had to go anywhere else to see it! Only time in nearly twenty years I’ve seen my hubby relax long enough to enjoy reading...out on the deck. Not knowing ahead of time about the huge tide difference, we all woke up the first morning and laughed as we joked “where’d the ocean go?” Don’t worry folks, it comes back.

Not sure what I liked better the owner or the property

What an amazing owner! I also own a beach front rental but in Washington state so probable more picky than most on expectations. Owner truly wants your stay to be the best vacation ever! Her communications and suggestions pre-during and even after trip really shows how much she cares about her guests. The property was very comfortable, beds were great, both box springs and mattress's covered, and with new no stains pillows.. (rare in rentals so I always bring my own) Loved the cotton sheets so had to take a picture of the tag to find them for myself. She has everything (and more)you could possible need in her home, if I thought "oh she doesn't have..." I would eventually find it. Floor plan is very nice for two couples, having bedrooms on each side of house with kitchen/living area in middle. Her pictures makes it look like a long stair step to beach but its not at all. Beach is very private, we didn't see anyone our whole trip, it was perfect in every way. The beach also holds treasures for shell collectors :-) You have views of water from bedrooms and living area, this really is a little piece of heaven. We also loved all the homey touches Sue had in her home, it was like staying at a friends house and not a rental, her attention to detail showed in every room. It seemed like everyday I would see something new that would give me a smile. The one complaint I do have though is that darn Bare Den Sauna and outside shower, now my husband is shopping for the same set up for us, he loved it that much! :-) We are in our 60's, and travel several times a year renting homes, I can honestly say that Sue's Bear Beach Home is my favorite to date, its clean, well stocked and maintained, fantastic location, and has an owner that gives everything to make sure you enjoy your trip. I really can't say enough good things about Sue, her home and the area, the one thing that I will always remember about our Maine adventure is this place, we rarely return to the same area as there is just so much yet to explore but Bear Beach Maine would go on my list of wanting to return, it was that perfect! You will not be disappointed staying here. Thank you so much for sharing your vacation home so others can experience your special little piece of heaven

I am so happy to hear that you had a wonderful week. And I have to say that I agree with your husband; the out-door shower/sauna is surprisingly just about my favorite thing about the house. Going from the hot sauna to the shower or jumping in a pile of snow and then back to the sauna is very healthy for your skin and body in general. Great Beach and Accomodating Home

This home was perfect for our 2 families of 4. 3 kids stayed in loft, 3 bedrooms downstairs for adults and teenager. Beach all to ourselves, outdoor shower was a great spot to clean off the sand, warmed up in the sauna, several campfires and roasting of marshmallows. We highly recommend this location. You have to travel a bit to get to parks and restaurants but the private beach was worth it! Keep an eye on the tides as it does get really low and shallow during low tide. Sue answered any questions we had immediately. She was great!

Fantastic Family Vacation

Our week at Bear Beach couldn't have been better. We enjoyed swimming, walks on the beach, ping pong in the basement and relaxing in the sauna. We went on a lovely hike at Western Head Trail (not far at all from Bear Beach), bought lobsters from Little River Lobster, went shopping at the Dollar Store, walked down to the convenience store for pizza and beer. We drove into Machias to get wine and cheese from The French Cellar and had a lovely night on the deck. The house had everything we needed. Having our own private beach was amazing. Sue and Jim were very quick to respond to any questions we had. This is a perfect spot for a family of all ages. My children (ages 6, 10, 13, 18 and 21) all had a fabulous time. We were able to make great memories, go on little adventures and relax when we needed to!!

Great house, beautiful location, can't wait to go back

Bear Beach is a great property surrounded by woods and with a staircase to the bay. As a family who loves to cook, we particularly liked the open kitchen, where we could socialize while making dinner. The sauna was a wonderful way to relax after a long coastal hike. Kids loved playing in the bay. Really great location with a 15 min drive to a coastal hike in Cutler and 25-40 min drives to other hikes further north.

Great location-very comfortable accomodations-excellent customer service

We rented Bear Beach for a week May 2018 for a University Machias Graduation with family 3.5 days and friends to explore the area 3.5 days. Location on ocean with sunset views fantastic! All aspects of house made for a very comfortable stay for 8 adults. Outdoor back yard space great for lawn games. Sauna worked great! Machias/Cutler/Lubec has wonderful maintained hiking trails through mature green mossy forests opening to breath taking ocean views! There is a bike trail that is not paved but has wonderful scenery and brings you to a very good restaurant/brewery in Machais. Sue was ideal to work with providing information about the area and tips to make our stay in their home more enjoyable!

Worth the drive!

We had a wonderful time staying at Bear Beach. It was the ideal spot for quiet relaxation and being in nature. The kitchen was fully equipped and allowed us to cook hearty meals. We arrived late on the first night following our drive from Boston and Sue was very helpful with recommendations for the limited dining options nearby. The fireplace was spectacular and the claw foot tub and sauna added extra charm. Waking up to the sight of the ocean every morning was a treat. Sue and Jim, thank you for sharing your home!

It was truly a pleasure to have you as guests at Bear Beach Maine. Your communication before, during and after your stay was awesome and hopefully aided in making you feel a bit more comfortable in your new surroundings. Chief is a very lucky dog to have such loving pet parents. You have obviously taught him to be tidy and responsible around the house. He left things in very good order and that is much appreciated. Joe, Kait and Chief, we look forward to welcoming you back again...While winter is beautiful, summer and fall are gorgeous!

What an amazing week!!!

My husband and I were looking for a relaxing get away to escape to and ring in the new year. Someplace we could unwind from the chaos of the holidays. I came across Bear Beach Maine online and we both agreed it looked perfect! It was cold, but being December in Maine we expected that. What we didn’t expect, however, was how gorgeous the cabin and setting was! The house was in the middle of a white frosted forest, with a private beach that had the most beautiful sunsets - something I did not expect when traveling to the east coast. It was very peaceful and serene setting, but still close enough to quaint New England towns and sights that were really fun to explore. The days we spent at the house were wonderful too. It has everything you need and more. In fact I found the attention to detail with what the house is equipped with very charming; it’s obvious that this house is treated more like a home by the owners. And while we didn’t actually meet the owners, Sue was so helpful and answered all the questions I had before and during our trip. My husband and I really wanted to have a lobster dinner, but seeing that December isn’t the season for lobstering we weren’t sure it would be possible, but Sue told us where we could find some and we enjoyed an awesome dinner in front of the fireplace. One of my absolute favorite things about the house was the sauna! And while it was too cold to use the outdoor shower I think I would’ve really enjoyed that as well. Being dog friendly was a big selling point for us too since we often travel with our dog, who also had a great time! I love Bear Beach, I’m so glad we went! It was the perfect place for a romantic getaway! My husband and I are already talking about a trip back in the summer with our children and grandkids. We’re a very active family and we love the outdoors, so I can’t wait to go back for hiking, kayaking and of course more lobster!
